Scope of Works:
• Strengthening and Rehabilitation of Reinforced concrete Perlite Silo No.4

Project Description:
The reinforced concrete silo is part of a silos' complex used by an industrial minerals' company in order to store perlite, excavated from the nearby located mine. The structure is located not more than 1OOm from the sea and was constructed 25 years ago.
Presence of vertical cracks at all the height of the silo required inspection that indicated degradation of the concrete cover followed by severe corrosion of the hoop reinforcement. The requirement was for a strengthening method durable enough to withstand the severe environment that would rehabilitate the silo fast and without adding weight to the structure.
The repair consisted of deposal of the degradated concrete, sandblasting of the corroded reinforcement, application of corrosion inhibitors and application of external shotcrete layer to rehabilitate the initial section geometry. Tyfo^® SCH-41 System was chosen in order to replace the missing hoop reinforcement and fully restore the silo capacity. A special saturator device was used for the Tyfo^® SCH-41 wet Iay-up application.
The last 10 years this client has entrusted us and the Tyfo Fibrwrap Systems for the repair of at least 10 facilities (Silos, Treatment plant, water tanks, buildings) on their site.
