Structural Upgrade of Evinos river Bridge, Grevena, Greece
Project: Structural Upgrade of Evinos river Bridge
Location: Grevena, Greece
Client: Dept of Public Works and Transportation
Contract Duration: 15 days
Scope of Works:
• Structural Upgrade and increase of the loading capacity of bridge
Project Description:
Evinos River Bridge is located at the Poros village in Western Greece. It was built soon after the 2nd World War. It consists of four spans and the two main girders are seated on steel roller bearings.
Bridge was designed and constructed for vehicle loading per the design codes and practice of the 1940s and thus a structural upgrade of the loading class of the bridge was necessary, since it is the only bridge overpassing the Evinos River connecting the road network of a number of villages on the mountainous area to the main city.
Structural repair and strengthening works for upgrading the bridge superstructure loading capacity were executed. For the flexural enhancement of the bridge girders, a Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Carbon System was applied per the design. Additional anchorage was necessary at the ends of the girders with Fibrwrap® specially designed anchorage system.
Work completed in less than 2 weeks time and bridge was delivered back to operation. Replacement of the old steel roller bearings to steel plate rubber bearings took place as well.
